It&amp;#39;s also free and open-source and has been growing in popularity lately. Erlang is from the &amp;quot;functional&amp;quot; family of languages.&lt;br /&gt;Maple is a &amp;quot;general-purpose commercial computer algebra system&amp;quot; (&lt;a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maple_%28software%29" rel="nofollow"&gt;Mapple @ Wikipedia&lt;/a&gt;). Apparently it &amp;quot;incorporates a dynamically typed imperative-style programming language&amp;quot;.&lt;br /&gt;If you red the article I&amp;#39;m doing something in my free time (i.e. Erlang being free is better than paying for Maple). I&amp;#39;m also trying to have fun and experiment with functional style of programming (again Erlang is the better choice). Fixing it would be trivial anyway. &lt;br /&gt;I actually wrote the article 1 year ago, but had it sitting in my archives for a while. Then I thought someone may find it useful and put it online last week. &lt;br /&gt;The Google Code project also has the next 25 solutions and I tried putting some good comments in the source.
